Goodwill and the Digital TV Conversion

U.S. residents who own a TV with "rabbit ears" may need to buy a digital converter box in order to continue using it after February 2009.

Goodwill Industries International is part of a national coalition educating the public about the February 2009 transition from analog (over-the-air) to all-digital broadcasting, which could leave some households without television reception unless steps are taken now.

Consumers with television sets equipped with built-in digital tuners or TV sets connected to cable, satellite or other pay service will likely not be affected. However, if you have a rooftop antenna or use “rabbit ears,” you may need to purchase a digital TV (DTV) converter box.

The federal government is offering a limited number of coupons for $40 that can be used toward the purchase of DTV converter boxes, which will allow consumers to continue to use their analog TV sets. The converter boxes will be for sale at major retailers.

To obtain your coupon (two per household only), please call (888) DTV-2009 or visit www.DTV2009.gov.
