U.S. Representative Pete Sessions Honored with Goodwill® Policymaker Award

WASHINGTON, DC – Goodwill Industries International recently honored U.S. Rep. Pete Sessions (R-TX) with a 2015 Goodwill Policymaker Award for demonstrating strong support for Goodwill’s public policy priorities. The award was presented on Tuesday, April 14 during a reception in Washington, DC, as part of Goodwill’s annual advocacy event.
Goodwill Industries of Dallas (TX) nominated Rep. Sessions for the award. He has been a consistent advocate for the rights of Americans with disabilities. As a parent of a child with Down syndrome, he understands the social, legal and financial barriers to optimal quality of life for persons with disabilities in America. As the Chair of the House Rules Committee, Sessions has used his influence to create bipartisan consensus around policy issues for adults with disabilities. He co-founded the bipartisan Congressional Down Syndrome Caucus in 2008 as a platform for these legislative issues. Additionally, he has crossed party lines to work with President Obama to ensure passage of key legislation.
Sessions also co-sponsored the Achieving a Better Life Experience (ABLE) Act. The legislation eases financial strains faced by individuals with disabilities by making tax-free savings accounts available to cover qualified expenses such as education, housing and transportation.
“Goodwill is proud to have a longstanding relationship with Rep. Sessions,” said Rodney Ginther, president of Goodwill Industries of Dallas. “By giving Goodwill a voice, he and his colleagues in both chambers of Congress and in both parties give voice to millions of Americans who seek Goodwill services each year.”
