Generous Donors Make the Bon-Ton Goodwill® Sale a Continued Success

Goodwill Accepts Two Million Pounds of Donations from Bon-Ton Customers
Rockville, MD – From September 14 – October 1, 2016, customers at The Bon-Ton Stores, Inc. (NASDAQ: BONT), which operates Bon-Ton, Bergner’s, Boston Store, Carson’s, Elder-Beerman, Herberger’s and Younkers stores, donated two million pounds of clothing, textiles and household goods during the Goodwill Sale. Donations are sold in Goodwill stores and the revenues fund job placement and training programs that help people find employment and build their careers. The Bon-Ton Goodwill Sale takes place twice a year and is in its 22nd year.
This fall, Goodwill and Bon-Ton encouraged customers to clean out their closets and bring their donations for Goodwill to Bon-Ton stores in exchange for discount coupons for up to 25 percent off new fall fashions. This season’s donations will generate approximately 8.5 million dollars in revenue and help Goodwill provide 289,000 hours of Goodwill job training and support services where Bon-Ton and Goodwill operate.
“Donations to Goodwill are vital to helping Goodwill provide the job placement and training services people need to find employment,” said Kim Zimmer, chief marketing officer and senior vice president of global development for Goodwill Industries International. “We are grateful for Bon-Ton’s commitment to helping people find employment and serve the communities where they operate.”
The Bon-Ton Goodwill Sale represents the longest-running department store collaboration between both organizations and has become a community favorite. Customers eagerly await the event, which takes place each spring and fall, to donate their items to Goodwill and save on new merchandise at Bon-Ton. Using the revenue from the sale of those donations, Goodwill provides services such as computer classes, resume reviews, interviewing skills and specialized training in fields such as automotive services, construction, health care and retail as well as in other high-demand industries.
“Bon-Ton is committed to helping people in our communities and we’re proud the Bon-Ton Goodwill Sale achieves that goal,” said Kathryn Bufano, president and chief executive officer for The Bon-Ton Stores, Inc. “Thank you to the many caring customers and associates who donate during our Goodwill Sale.”
