The Bon-Ton Stores and Goodwill®: A Commitment to our Communities

Semi-annual Partnership Provides Support for Job Seekers
ROCKVILLE, MD — This September, customers at The Bon-Ton Stores, Inc.’s 261 retail locations in 25 states will be able to shop locally, donate locally and change local lives through the fall 2017 Goodwill Sale.
Now in its 23rd year, the Goodwill Sale will take place from Wednesday, September 13, to Friday, Saturday, September 30, at Bon-Ton, Bergner’s, Boston Store, Carson’s, Elder-Beerman, Herberger’s, and Younkers stores.
During the sale event, customers will be able to drop off items for donation to their local Goodwill organizations in exchange for coupons good for up to 30 percent off the purchase price of clothing, accessories and other items, excluding cosmetics and fragrances. In addition, seniors will receive triple coupons.
“Bon-Ton has always strived to be a good neighbor, knowing we have a responsibility to the communities we serve,” said William Tracy, president and CEO of The Bon-Ton Stores, Inc. “A big portion of that local dedication comes each spring and fall with our twice-yearly Goodwill Sale.”
This past spring, Bon-Ton customers donated 1.4 million pounds of clothing, textiles and household items, which equated to 250,000 hours of job placement, job training, skills enrichment and other community-based services, such as financial education and mentoring, for people in local communities. The Goodwill Sale represents Goodwill and Bon-Ton’s shared community commitment to providing skills development for career advancement and other necessary support services, which is essential for job creation.
“Whenever someone donates clothing or household goods to Goodwill, we are able to create jobs, training programs and education assistance for people who are unemployed or underemployed,” said Jim Gibbons, president and CEO of Goodwill Industries International. “The Goodwill Sale is a testament to our shared vision with Bon-Ton as brands who believe in bigger savings and greater good. It is truly inspiring to witness the support we get each spring and fall from our partners at Bon-Ton.”
Job training and services provided by Goodwill organizations support people with disadvantages and disabilities, veterans and military families, older workers, youth and young adults, and anyone facing a difficult time advancing in their career. The Bon-Ton Goodwill Sale is Goodwill’s largest and longest-standing cause partnership and department store donation drive.
