How to Make More Room for New Stuff

Give Back Box InfographicOne of my favorite ways to save time is to shop online, yet one of my least favorite jobs is breaking down the cardboard boxes that show up when my stuff is delivered!  And while I love to get new things, I also follow the “One In, One Out” rule, so for everything new, something else gets donated to Goodwill®.

Now, Goodwill has an innovative new tool that makes all of that easier.  It’s called “Give Back Box.” Here’s how it works:

1. You shop and order online as usual.  Goodwill is pleased to have online retail partners such as ASICS, Ann Taylor, Bon-Ton, Bergner’s, Boston Store, Carson’s, Elder-Beerman, Herberger’s, Younkers, Dockers, Levi’s, LOFT, Overstock.com, and Style Up Girl, who are helping to spread the word about this great new donation tool… but you can shop anywhere and use any box you like.

2. Find things to donate so that you follow the “One In, One Out” rule—things like clothing and housewares. For example, if you get a pair of new shoes, one of your other less-loved pairs of shoes needs to go! Put those donatable items into the box and seal it up.  (Bonus: You don’t have to recycle it or break it down for the garbage collectors!)

3. Print a shipping label, at no cost to you, from GiveBackBox.com.  You can request a pickup from your front porch from the U.S. Postal Service right there on the site after getting your label.  Put the label on the box and leave it for the mail carrier, and you are done!

Now you have donated to Goodwill without even leaving your house!  Out with the old, in with the new… and it’s convenient too!  As we go into the new year, it’s important to make room for the gifts we are receiving for the holidays and of course, it’s also crucial that we give back by donating, whether it’s via Give Back Box or donating money or volunteer hours.  Keep the cycle of giving and receiving going by donating as easily as you shop, online and from your home!
