Goodwills Team Up for On the Ground, Virtual Career Fairs

Today, nearly 11 million Americans are unemployed.  And the number of part-time workers who would rather have full-time jobs is “much larger” than normal for an economy with a 6.7 percent unemployment rate, according to Fed Chair Janet Yellen.

Working to combat the employment challenges so many Americans are facing today, Goodwill® will hold on-the-ground and virtual career fairs during Goodwill Industries week, May 4-10, bringing together nearly 700 employers and 12,000 job seekers for events that provide on-roads to employment and career advancement.

Dozens of community-based Goodwill agencies throughout the United States and Canada are hosting in-person career fairs and hiring events, which last year drew thousands of job seekers and hundreds of participating employers. This year,  the number of participating job seekers and employers is expected to increase.

In addition, Goodwill Industries International will host its third annual virtual career fair from May 5 – 7, featuring employers with cross-continent footprints, including Cintas, Dell, C&K, Brickman, RCS, and The University of Phoenix.  The virtual career fair will be hosted by Goodwill Industries International, using Intercall, Inc.’s virtual conferencing platform, enabling job seekers to meet with employers and apply for jobs from anywhere.

“Now more than ever, people in communities across the nation are seeking jobs that will ultimately change their lives and change futures. This is a great opportunity for employers as well as for workers,” said Gibbons.

The Goodwill Virtual Career Fair will also offer virtual workshop sessions each day from May 5-May 7, focusing on career advice and topics such as resume writing, interviewing and networking.

“Certainly, for job seekers, this opens up a greater avenue to find work. For employers, it offers the chance to refine recruiting strategies, expand candidate pools, and reach candidates who might not be able to attend an in-person fair,” Gibbons added.
