On June 19, Bank of America hosted, “Trends and Best Practices in Volunteer Management.” This insightful webinar, led by Allison Doerfler, executive director of the HandsOn Network at Points of Light and Vanessa Diamond, senior vice president of civic innovations at Community Foundation, provided a comprehensive overview of best practices for engaging volunteers.
At just three months into the Virtual and Volunteer Services role at GII, I am eager to obtain and share relevant volunteerism information. Because I knew this webinar would not be recorded, as I listened in, my typing outpaced Usain Bolt. I quickly noted every word, question and answer so that I could share this information with you.
One of my many favorite takeaways from the webinar was that “volunteerism is cultural philosophy of how to support your community.”
Other insights? The act of bringing in multiple human beings into a body of work takes time to plan. We must be intentional when developing a system set to effectively engage volunteers.
Rather than list the other learnings from the webinar, I created this infographic summary of Points of Lights’ best practices for strategic volunteer engagement.
