LA Goodwill Makes Special Vintage Fashion Available for Sale

SoCal Sale 200Goodwill Southern California (Los Angeles) held a one-time, one-day only vintage clothing collection sale on Sunday, April 19 in its community enrichment center at Fletcher Square in Los Angeles, CA.

The overwhelmingly successful sale (the biggest in the Goodwill’s history) included thousands of pieces curated since the agency was established in 1916, including iconic items from nearly every era of fashion ranging from the late 1800s through the 1980s. The garments were donated to Goodwill over the years and were selected for use in fashion shows and other events, even appearing in segments on television. Everything from Victorian lace and hand beaded dresses from the 1900s to fabulous frocks from the 50’s and groovy knits and patterns from the 70’s were available for sale.  As an added bonus, the Vintage Fashions Sale included a collection of 700 men’s and women’s hats collected over the years.

For some 1,800 shoppers, the Goodwill’s massive vintage sale sounded too good to pass up, and they lined up as early as 4:30 am to ensure their chance to snag up to ten items from the collection. The one day, one location sales totaled $74,487.

The Los Angeles Goodwill chose 200 garments to maintain as a reference collection. Last year, damaged merchandise was sent to Goodwill retail stores for sale during Halloween and other items including pieces of fabric and lace, accessories and buttons were donated to local fashion schools for repurposing.
