Satisfy your Musical Interests at Goodwill®

Music holds an important place in most peoples’ lives. No matter what your taste is there are surely songs, music styles, or particular instruments that just speak to you. You may not have thought of it before, but Goodwill is a great place to satisfy your musical interests whether you love to play music, dance to it, or just plain listen.

A few years ago, Goodwill was thrust into the mainstream music spotlight with the release of Macklemore’s song “Thrift Shop”. Not surprisingly, this wasn’t the first song about the joys and spoils of thrift shopping and I was excited to find this fun playlist of songs on the subject that was shared by Goodwill Industries of Hawaii, Inc. (Honolulu). If you need a little fashion inspiration before your next trip to the thrift store, head on over to the post so you can have a listen to the style advice given by musicians like Paul McCartney, Weezer, and yes – even ZZ Top.

It’s never too early to start cultivating a passion for music! One wonderful way to share the joy of melody with little ones is to put together an instrument shelf like DL of the blog Teach Your Children Well. The rotating instrument collection pictured above includes musical paraphernalia that DL has both thrifted (the colorful xylophone was just $2 at her local Goodwill!) and made from things already in her home. If you’re a parent, I’d highly recommend creating an instrument shelf like this to encourage your child’s musical expression. Check out the post for tips on creating DIY instruments and tracking down thrifted instruments that will be engaging for kids.

By the way, did you know that Goodwill Industries-Big Bend, Inc. (Tallahassee) has a band? They do! You can watch the video above to find out more about their program for teaching youth to play everything from drums to brass instruments. By shopping at Goodwill stores in this area, you’re helping to empower local youth with the confidence and courage to make positive choices in your community.

One of my favorite sections of Goodwill is the vinyl area. I have found so many wonderful records for just .99 cents. In fact, it’s rare that I ever shop for records anywhere else. Whatever your musical preference, I know you’ll find something to appease it at your local thrift store. Go have a look!
