Goodwill® Finds for Foodies

Most of the foodies I know think of brand new cookware and kitchen gadgets when they need to update their collection, but there are so many reasons to shop thrift stores for cookery (yes, even for serious chefs!). The first that comes to mind for me is price—new pots and pans can be unreasonably expensive. After that there’s the surprise of finding culinary favorites that aren’t available straight from a catalog anymore. The most rewarding, though, is knowing that Goodwill strengthens lives, families and communities. With this motivation in mind, here are some amazing Goodwill finds that foodies will appreciate:

Have you ever heard that expression “people eat with their eyes?” Basically, a quality dish is only as good as its presentation. Fancy restaurants usually use white dishes and practice their plating to make food visually pop, so why shouldn’t the home chef spend time arranging their food just so? And what could be a more unique display than one you make yourself? This three-tiered stand shared by Goodwill of Southwestern Pennsylvania (Pittsburgh) on their Goodwill Renews! Pinboard is just perfect. Grab three differently-sized cake pans and two candlestick holders the next time you’re in Goodwill to build your own! Can you imagine this showing off cupcakes, small potted herbs, or cheese and crackers? Even people who aren’t at home in the kitchen could use one to organize crafting supplies, makeup, or jewelry. It’s so versatile!

What about chefs with a professional kitchen? Part of running any food establishment –whether canteen or café—is creating an appetizing atmosphere. Decor like this silverware lamp put together by Four Corners Design hits the mark! To me, this is made to top a bistro table in a lunch spot with an industrial feel. It doesn’t have to be limited to that, though. We all want our homes to capture a certain mood, so use bits and pieces sourced from your local Goodwill to craft a one-of-a-kind lamp for your kitchen table! Now for a statement piece even Gran would approve of—a teacup wall clock! How darling is this DIY shared by Goodwill Industries of Northwest North Carolina, Inc. (Winston-Salem) on their Repurposed Home Pinboard? This would be a lovely way to upcycle chipped cups that have been handed down in your family, but are no longer suitable for use. Mixing in some thrifted finds adds an eclectic charm and allows you to indulge in those cute cups that have been separated from their set. Or, make a mini version with espresso cups! There are so many ways you could make this project your own.

Goodwill is basically one big potluck of new-to-you cookware, so dig into the selection when it’s time for your next decor project (or when you just need a trusty new spatula for flipping pancakes). From copper pots to woks or whatever’s your cup of tea–Bon appetite!
