'Tis the season of upgrading to downgrades! Yes, it’s January! The holidays are over now (insert sigh of relief here) and like many people, the onslaught of stuff and relief that it’s FINALLY over has put me squarely in purge mode. Lots of us are. This is exactly why January thrifting may be my favorite time of year.
I’ve always said my fashion sense could be best described as “sophisticated toddler” because I love mixing bright colors and patterns. Comfort and pockets are also a must-- and quite honestly--you’ll likely find toys and snacks in mine, too.
We’re hard on clothes. During all the movements required in our daily lives, we tug, we stretch, we chafe-- it’s amazing we haven’t all just given up by now and collectively decided to go back to wearing togas.
There’s SO much talk right now about the Marie Kondo-inspired tidying and purging going on across America, and like many of you, I am SO HERE for it. If you’re not up to speed, here is a quick explainer to catch you up. While decluttering our home is so satisfying in so many ways, I feel like we’re in a unique cultural moment where donating and shopping are intersecting in so many positive ways with people. And that sparks joy for me.

Earth Day is an opportunity for many to remember their impact on the environment, and to take actions that decrease any negative impact. For some, Earth Day has expanded into Earth Week or Earth Month. At Goodwill, however, stewardship for the earth is part of our mission and what we do every day.
Kids learn and grow by trying new things, exploring, and—yes, by making messes. With so many exciting experiences, they are naturally tempted to dive from one activity to the next with little (if any) regard for clean-up. One way that we can support their curiosity without stifling play is to create an environment in our homes that organizes activities in a way that makes sense to little ones. Good news for you—it may also save your feet from the dreaded Lego-stab.
