Goodwill Industries has joined forces with CNN’s "Hero of the Year" program, to recognize ordinary citizens whose extraordinary deeds are making a difference in their communities and around the world. Goodwill, along with other renowned charities including Habitat for Humanity, Volunteers of America and YMCA, are encouraging donors, volunteers and their local communities to help select the 2008 CNN "Hero of the Year." Choose which of the top 10 heroes' accomplishments inspires you the most.
These finalists are helping people around the world by strengthening communities and giving them access to health care, education, jobs, and disaster relief, and their commitment to public service is an inspiration. After receiving nearly 4,000 submissions from 75 countries, a Blue Ribbon Panel including Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Dr. Jane Goodall, and Queen Rania Al Abdullah, selected this year’s Top 10 CNN Heroes. Each Honoree will receive a $25,000 award for his/her organization. The “Hero of the Year” will receive $100,000.
Goodwill knows there is a great need for the work these honorees do every day. We are asking each of you to cast your vote for the “Hero of the Year” by visiting www.cnn.com/heroes, and ask others to do so as well.
The “Hero of the Year” will be revealed on "CNN Heroes: An All-Star Tribute" hosted by Anderson Cooper, which will air on Thanksgiving night, Nov. 27, at 9 p.m. (ET/PT).
