News ReleaseNational Technology Magazine Honors 'MyGoodwill' Goodwill Industries International Wins CIO Magazine’s 2006 CIO 100 Award July 26, 2006 Rockville, MD — CIO magazine has honored Goodwill Industries International with a 2006 CIO 100 award for its MyGoodwill web portal. The magazine’s annual award program recognizes companies and organizations around the world that use IT in innovative ways to enable growth and deliver a competitive advantage. MyGoodwill is designed to serve as a central, online communications system that connects more than 80,000 employees from around the world, and facilitates an environment of learning and knowledge sharing throughout the Goodwill organization. Launched in October 2005, MyGoodwill was developed with open-source technology to link the organization’s global network of 205 autonomous, community-based Goodwill agencies. This technology is designed to allow Goodwill employees to share best practices and emerging trends in their collective effort to provide career services for people in their communities who are unemployed. “Goodwill Industries has adopted technology advancement as a key strategy of its 21st Century Initiative goal of helping 20 million people achieve economic independence through work by the year 2020,” says George W. Kessinger, President and CEO of Goodwill Industries International. “We are honored that CIO recognizes Goodwill’s use of technology to keep the organization competitive in today’s marketplace.” The portal is organized by Goodwill’s retail, contracts, and workforce development business lines, as well as by specific focus areas, including information technology, marketing, and human resources. Through MyGoodwill, employees are able to interact in real time through online tools such as message boards and blogs, and search the document management system. Because MyGoodwill will soon be fully integrated with a Learning Management System, employees will also be able to access an array of professional development and work skills courses and track their individual progress. “MyGoodwill’s primary business goal is to create a centralized means of communication among Goodwill employees around the world,” says Steve Bergman, Chief Information Officer of Goodwill Industries International. “The open source technology behind MyGoodwill allows Goodwill to develop the site’s features by focusing more resources on development than on licensing.” "Year after year, the CIO 100 award recipients serve as industry role models for business and IT excellence. This year’s winners are particularly remarkable for their ability to translate IT innovation into business value and solid ROI," says Abbie Lundberg, Editor in Chief of CIO magazine. The 2006 CIO 100 awards will be presented in San Diego, CA, on August 22 during the eighth annual CIO 100 Symposium® and Awards Ceremony. Complete coverage of the 2006 CIO 100 awards will be in CIO magazine and available online at www.cio.com on August 15.
