Get More For Your Money During the Bon-Ton Goodwill Sale

September 3, 2008

Rockville, MD — People looking for a way to stretch their dollars and be eco-friendly can take advantage of the Goodwill ®Sale event at The Bon-Ton® Stores, Inc. From September 10 to 22, customers who donate clean, gently-used clothing and home textiles at participating Bon-Ton locations will receive 20 percent off coupons toward new merchandise, including apparel and cosmetics at Bon-Ton. One coupon is given per donated item. The donations will be sold at Goodwill Industries® retail stores, where the revenue generates job training programs and career services for people who need it most in local communities.

The popular retail trade-in promotion is a successful collaboration between Bon-Ton and Goodwill. The last semi-annual Goodwill Sale generated nearly 3.3 million pounds of donated clothing and textiles. From the sale of these donated items, Goodwill has earned an estimated $2.3 million in revenues to support Goodwill’s job training and career services for individuals with disabilities and others who are having a hard time finding a job. By donating to Goodwill, customers are also helping the environment by keeping usable items out of landfills and providing affordable, gently-used merchandise to local Goodwill stores.

“Bon-Ton is a valuable partner,” says Jim Gibbons, president and CEO of Goodwill Industries International®. “By donating to Goodwill, Bon-Ton shoppers are helping people in their local community find and keep good jobs.”

“This semi-annual event is a wonderful benefit to our customers. Our customers can donate their items to be re-sold for a great cause while receiving a substantial discount on new fall fashions,” says Bud Bergren, president and chief executive officer of The Bon-Ton Stores, Inc. “The Goodwill Sale exemplifies our commitment to the communities in which we operate.”

The Bon-Ton Stores, Inc. operates 280 stores, which includes 12 furniture galleries, in 23 states in the Northeast, Midwest and upper Great Plains under the Bon-Ton, Bergner’s, Boston Store, Carson Pirie Scott, Elder-Beerman, Herberger’s and Younkers nameplates and, under the Parisian nameplate, three stores in the Detroit, MI area. The stores offer a broad assortment of brand-name fashion apparel and accessories for women, men and children, as well as cosmetics and home furnishings.
