News ReleaseGoodwill International's New Board Chair Brings Business Expertise and Unique Insight to Serving People
August 28, 2006 Rockville, MD — The Board of Directors of Goodwill Industries International, Inc. has elected Jarret Lobb as its new Chair. Lobb recently took the helm during Goodwill's annual meeting, and will serve a one-year term. Lobb's introduction to Goodwill began 13 years ago, soon after he started to experience diminishing peripheral vision. Lobb's condition, diagnosed as vasculitis of the retina, led him to seek vision rehabilitation services from the Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired (ABVI)-Goodwill Industries of Greater Rochester (NY). At Goodwill, Lobb learned orientation and mobility skills designed for those who are visually impaired, and his family members received training as well. Goodwill's low-vision clinic helped him optimize the sight he had. After he completed the spectrum of Goodwill services, he asked how he could help the agency, and was told he could volunteer to serve on the board. Lobb was appointed, and served on the ABVI-Goodwill board for nine years including, two years as its Chair. "Jarret is a tremendous asset to the Goodwill network. As a former recipient of Goodwill services, he has a unique perspective on our work. Coupled with his long-time local board experience and his business and financial acumen, he will keep the board's focus on a 'people first' basis as he guides us in the development and implementation of our strategic plans," says George W. Kessinger, President and CEO of Goodwill Industries International. Lobb's primary goals during his tenure as Chair include increasing local Goodwill board member attendance at the organization's annual meeting, so that they may share best practices and examine business trends and opportunities. He plans to support Goodwill's entrepreneurial ventures to grow its finances, raise its performance bar, and help the organization continue to improve and reach its overall strategic direction in support of its mission to eliminate employment barriers for people. Lobb currently serves as Vice President of Systems Development for Rochester-based Monro Muffler Brake & Service, which has 700 stores across 17 states. He continues to serve as a community member of the ABVI-Goodwill Board's investment committee. Lobb is a Certified Public Accountant and received his Bachelor's degree from the University of Dayton (Ohio). He has also completed some post-graduate work from the University and from Wright State in Dayton. Lobb is married, has three adult children, and resides in Pittsford, NY. |
