While Goodwill stores offer unique finds at affordable rates, National Thrift Shop Day also provides an opportunity to share how Goodwill’s mission impacts people’s lives through job placement, education, training and career development that help people earn jobs. In fact, more than 87 percent of the collective revenue from the sale of donated goods at Goodwill stores support and grow critical community-based programs and services such as financial education, charter high schools, résumé reviews, child care and transportation.

“National Thrift Shop Day is a special time of the year. Local Goodwill organizations get a chance to creatively and uniquely promote their products and services, and tell the story of the Goodwill network,” said Kyle Stewart, senior director, donated goods retail for Goodwill Industries International. “While we take great pride in being a leader in thrift, it’s important to underscore that shopping at Goodwill translates into career opportunities for community members who are underemployed or unemployed.”

Last year, Goodwill placed more than 288,000 people in jobs and provided services to more than 2 million people to help them advance in their careers, and build their career and financial assets.
