PR Professional Helps Goodwill Participants put their Best Feet Forward

Atlanta, GA — When William ‘Bill’ Carver first approached Goodwill of North Georgia to volunteer, he committed to one, seven-hour day each week at the agency’s Woodstock Career Center. He has been a Goodwill volunteer for only 18 months but has far exceeded his original goal. For his commitment to volunteerism and the Goodwlll® mission, Carver has been honored by Goodwill Industries International with the 2011 Elsine Katz Volunteer Leader of the Year Award.
A corporate communications and public relations professional, Carver has worked for corporations like BellSouth, Compaq Computer and Hewlett Packard, and currently works as a consultant. His skills in image-building now help people who approach the career center for résumé, interviewing and job search support.
When he saw that job applicants increasingly needed social media skills, Carver developed and now leads a “Linked In” workshop that helps people learn the ins and outs of social networking geared toward employment.
“Bill is a great example of how professionals in our communities can share their specific talents with those served by Goodwill Industries,” said Jim Gibbons, president and CEO of Goodwill Industries International. “Volunteers are assets to Goodwill and we value their critical contribution to Goodwill’s mission of helping people enter the world of work.”
Carver’s volunteerism extends beyond Goodwill Industries® as well. He is a member of the Cobb County Board of Recreation and Parks, a board member for the East Cobb Civic Association, and board chair for the DeMolay Foundation of Georgia, Inc.
Carver received his award at Goodwill’s annual Delegate Assembly meeting in Rochester, NY, on June 26.
