The Container Store® and Goodwill® Team Up to Kiss Clutter Goodbye During Spring Campaign

Retailer Accepting Monetary Donations at Checkout through May; Dedicates Two Weekends to Collect Items for Goodwill in Stores
DALLAS, TX — The Container Store®, the nation’s leading retailer of storage and organization products, is teaming up with Goodwill to help customers Kiss Clutter Goodbye. From today, March 28, through May 15, The Container Store is encouraging customers to declutter, donate and do life organized. The spring campaign includes two item donation weekend events at The Container Store’s locations nationwide, as well as a monetary donation initiative in partnership with Goodwill through the end of the campaign.
“In partnership with Goodwill, we’re thrilled to help our customers kiss clutter goodbye and say hello to organization. From the tiny home craze and focus on downsizing to the popularity of books on decluttering, including Marie Kondo’s KonMari Method, people everywhere are craving the benefits of a clutter-free life,” said Melissa Reiff, president and COO of The Container Store. “Our spring sale campaign focuses on encouraging our customers to let go of the things that are weighing them down, keep only the things that bring them joy or add meaning to their lives and provide them with expert solutions to organize those things that are important to them.”
The Kiss Clutter Goodbye weekends will occur in all 79 of The Container Store’s locations on Saturday and Sunday, April 23 – 24; and Saturday and Sunday, April 30 – May 1. Goodwill representatives will be on hand to accept donations of new or used clothing, textiles, small appliances and household goods. Customers who donate goods during these weekends will receive a free, co-branded bag from The Container Store to take home and remind them to declutter and donate to Goodwill throughout the year. Additionally, customers who make a monetary donation of $5 or more throughout the campaign will receive the free bag.
“Springtime organization is an exciting opportunity to throw open the windows and sort out the clutter, but it can also be an overwhelming chore that intimidates people out of even getting started,” said Lorie Marrero, Certified Professional Organizer®, creator of ClutterDiet.com and a spokesperson for Goodwill Industries International. Marrero’s closet organizer products that are sold at The Container Store are assembled by Goodwill program participants.
“Challenge everyone in your family to find 10 reusable items to donate to Goodwill, and bring them to The Container Store during their donation weekends!” Marrero added.
The Kiss Clutter Goodbye weekends will also include prize drawings, demonstrations from noon to 4pm of some of the retailer’s favorite decluttering solutions and techniques, and appearances by expert guests and its Contained Home professional organizers. For more information on local Kiss Clutter Goodbye weekend events, visit the store location pages at www.containerstore.com/locations.
To promote the Kiss Clutter Goodbye campaign and partnership with Goodwill, The Container Store will include messaging about Goodwill throughout its campaign communications, which includes direct mail, customer emails, social media and online marketing. This messaging will also be included on both The Container Store and Goodwill’s customer blogs, reminding readers about the donation events, sharing tips on how to declutter and highlighting how every Goodwill donation is the beginning of job creation. Goodwill uses the revenue from the sale of donated goods to help fund its mission to change lives by training people who are unemployed or underemployed in a variety of career fields and in high-demand industries. Goodwill’s employment programs promote independence and dignity for people to provide for themselves and their families, including on-site and virtual skills training, employment placement, job training and other community-based services, such as career counseling, English-language training, financial education, résumé preparation and access to transportation and child care.
