The mission of
Goodwill is to provide rehabilitation services, training, employment, and
opportunities for personal growth to the disabled/disadvantaged.
This mission has four components:
1. EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES within the Corporation through work services
or competitive jobs developed through corporate growth
and community placement
programs.
2. TRAINING in the form of specific skills and the development of appropriate
work
behaviors and habits.
3. COUNSELING AND GUIDANCE in the maintenance or preparation of independent
functioning within the general society.
4. TRANSITIONAL SERVICES with consumer movement throughout the facility
programming into community employment opportunities.
These services assist
individuals in finding jobs in the competitive market
or continuing to offer services as
they continue to develop the needed skills/habits to
the possible goal of competitive
employment.
A continuum of services has been designed to implement the elements of
Goodwill's mission. As Goodwill grows
and evolves, so too, does our perception and interpretation of this mission. We
are committed to the future and are oriented towards results.

Goodwill provides pre-vocational evaluation, work adjustment services,
transitional and long-term sheltered employment. We assist individuals in raising their level
of functioning and enhancing their work skills for today’s workforce. Our In-house Contract Program makes
agreements with private companies to perform work needed by that company, and
these contracts provide employment and paychecks for our clients.
Thank you to Classic Cuisine, America’s Thrift Stores, Subway Restaurants, Church’s Chicken, Birmingham Refrigeration, Guardmark Security, Embassy Suites, Sheraton Hotels, and Stardome Comedy Club for offering employment to our clients and to Alabama Metal, EBSCO, Aramark, Vulcan Threaded Products, and Bessemer Fastner and Supply for providing in-house contracts (and paychecks) for our clients in the In-House Contract Department.
