I was poking through Goodwill of Western Missouri and Eastern Kansas’s (Kansas City) “Goodwill Goes Formal” pinboard when I saw the darling dress pictured above. Ever since The Great Gatsby film was redone in 2013, the 1920s have become a popular party theme. Finding a dress like this (and for just $10!) would not only come in handy for Halloween and special events, but it could also be worn with modern accessories for a date night or cocktail party! The Goodwill shopper who bought this dress got lucky indeed.

When it comes to the 1930s I’m always really interested in home goods and décor. Although most pieces from this era are a little run down, buying them for a great price at Goodwill makes for an excellent DIY opportunity. Lindee of the blog The Lindee Tree was out thrifting one day when she spotted a musty, banged-up old desk and knew it had promise. With just a little elbow grease, paint, and brass cleaner she was able to bring it back to life saving money and creating the completely unique piece pictured above. Maybe the ‘40s are more your style? Then you’ll love this pinboard of WWII-era fashion ideas. And, if you’re in the area, Goodwill Houston will be hosting their annual Goodwill Gala on May 2nd, and the theme is – drumroll, please – 1945 Victory Party! It’s been 70 years since Goodwill made it down to Houston so they’ll be celebrating in style. Tickets are available for purchase now (visit their website for more information) and will get you food, games, and plenty of dancing. Plus, there will be a silent auction to raise funds for local programs. Goodwill’s programs enable youth to stay in school and learn to work; assist workers who have lost jobs; continue long-term services to people with physical and intellectual challenges; and provide business and government with a dependable labor force. What a wonderful cause to support!
