Goodwill® and Family Circle Magazine Team Up For Back To School Clothing Drive

Goodwill Industries International and Family Circle, the go-to resource for moms of tweens and teens, are teaming up for the 4th annual back-to-school clothing drive. Part of Family Circle’s back-to-school signature promotion, the drive aims to encourage families to donate their gently used clothing to Goodwill to fund job training, youth support services and other services that help individuals who are facing challenges to finding employment and their families.
Goodwill and Family Circle have partnered for back-to-school donation drives since 2009. In total, Family Circle readers contributed approximately 20 million pounds of clothing donations over the past 3 years, providing job training to people in need while improving the environment by diverting items from landfills.
Donate, Play & Win
This year, Goodwill and Family Circle are encouraging families to play the Donation Match Game, which provides a fun way for children to learn that just as there are things you recycle, there are things you donate. Goodwill’s Donate Movement encourages families to donate responsibly and conscientiously, and to know the positive impact that donating has on both people and the planet. To play the game and enter to win one of five laptops through this promotion, parents should visit: http://facebook.com/GoodwillIntl.
“As a Donate Movement partner, Family Circle is changing the way thousands of parents and decision makers view the impact of donating,” said Jim Gibbons, president and CEO of Goodwill Industries International. “Through the Goodwill and Family Circle back-to-school donation drive, we are educating parents and their children on how donations of clothing or household items create a meaningful impact and social good in the communities around them.”
Calculate the Impact of a Donation
To participate in this year’s clothing drive, donors can drop off their clothing items at any one of Goodwill’s more than 2,700 donation centers across the country or plan their own donation drives at schools, businesses, or anywhere friends and neighbors gather. After donating items they no longer need, they can calculate the impact of their donation through the patent-pending Donation Impact Calculator at http://donate.goodwill.org.
Families should visit http://locator.goodwill.org to find a Goodwill store or donation center in their community.
“Goodwill is a valuable partner for Family Circle because the partnership spreads the power of donating to families everywhere,” said Lee Slattery, VP and publisher of Family Circle. “Family Circle readers are committed to supporting their local communities through career counseling and support services, including financial education and youth mentoring. The back-to-school clothing drive is a great way to do that.”
The partnership will be featured in Family Circle’s September issue, which is dedicated to back-to-school activities and is available on newsstands now. More information about the partnership can also be found at http://donate.goodwill.org/familycircle.
