Goodwill® Awards Georgia Woman for Her Volunteer Service

Maryann McGuire Receives Goodwill’s 2017 Volunteer Mission Leader of the Year Award
ROCKVILLE — Goodwill Industries International is pleased to recognize the long-time volunteer service and commitment of Maryann McGuire, the recipient of its 2017 Volunteer Mission Leader of the Year award.
McGuire primarily works through Goodwill’s GoodBIZ program at Goodwill of North Georgia. In that capacity, she coordinates with entrepreneurs, assesses opportunities, produces curriculum materials, and develops marketing items and programs. Having spent her career in a variety of positions with Coca-Cola, McGuire utilizes her knowledge of the business industry to set up opportunities for program graduates.
In one case, she worked with a participant who had a great gift for storytelling, but limited sales experience or business knowledge. McGuire assisted in writing a business plan with the woman, who now has a career as a wellness coach, teaching laughter yoga.
“Through all of her support and her time, Maryann McGuire remains humble about her contributions and achievements,” said Raymond Bishop, president and CEO of Goodwill of North Georgia. “For her, the point is not to get something in return for her service, but she is genuinely deserving of recognition for her work.”
The Volunteer Mission Leader of the Year award is given annually to a Goodwill volunteer in appreciation for outstanding leadership and service to a local Goodwill organization.
“My experience volunteering for Goodwill has impacted me incredibly,” said McGuire. “I have so much respect for people who start their own businesses, and the guts you have to have to put yourself out there.”
The award was presented this week at Goodwill Industries International’s annual Delegate Assembly in Louisville, KY.
