Goodwill Industries International Teams Up with CitiFinancial to Support Local Communities

ROCKVILLE, MD —Goodwill Industries International — an innovative provider of career and other community-based services — is partnering with CitiFinancial to help area residents and customers support their local community this summer. From now until the end of August, CitiFinancial Servicing Centers across the United States will facilitate clothing donation drives to help support Goodwill’s mission of job training for people with disabilities and disadvantages.
CitiFinancial’s involvement reflects its philanthropic and community-oriented corporate culture. Employees leverage their professional skills and experience by volunteering with nonprofits and other community organizations.
“Sharing a likeminded vision with Goodwill, CitiFinancial Servicing is helping to make the neighborhoods where we do business better places to live and work,” said Sue Harnett, Head of Consumer Lending for Citi Holdings. “We have a strong tradition of supporting local organizations that help those in need, and we are excited area residents will be joining us in this effort throughout August.”
To pay for its programs, Goodwill sells donated clothing and household goods in its more than 2,700 stores in the United States and Canada, as well as online. The revenue collected from each store funnels directly back into the community by way of locally developed job training programs, employment placement programs and community-based programs, such as financial education, transportation and youth mentoring.
“We are encouraged that this partnership will serve as the framework to empower CitiFinancial employees and customers to become an entirely new audience of donors and shoppers,” said Jim Gibbons, president and CEO of Goodwill Industries International. “These donations will allow Goodwill to help strengthen the communities where CitiFinancial branches are located by facilitating job training and placement programs that will help families achieve financial stability and develop vibrant communities.”
Goodwill, a network of 165 community-based agencies in the United States and Canada with affiliates in 13 other countries, channels 82 percent of its total revenue directly into education and career services.
