Stylish Donors Make the Bon-Ton Goodwill® Sale a Success

Donations Provide 275,000 Hours of Goodwill Services in Bon-Ton Local Communities

ROCKVILLE, MD — The Bon-Ton Stores, Inc. (NASDAQ: BONT) which operates Bon-Ton, Bergner’s, Boston Store, Carson’s, Elder-Beerman, Herberger’s or Younkers stores, one of the most charitable retailers in the country, encouraged customers to donate their gently used clothing to Goodwill to help people in the community looking for work. Customers of the Bon-Ton Stores’ 270 locations demonstrated their generosity during the sale from September 16, 2015 – October 3, 2015. For twenty-one consecutive years, Bon-Ton shoppers have donated clothing and textiles to benefit Goodwill’s job training and employment services. In exchange, they received discount coupons for every item donated to purchase the stylish new fall fashions and home merchandise at the Bon-Ton Stores.

“Today’s shoppers want fashion at an affordable price and know they are doing good,” said Jim Gibbons, president and CEO of Goodwill Industries International. “Through their donations, Bon-Ton shoppers show their strong support for Goodwill programs that help people find jobs and care for their families in their local communities.”

Merchandise received by Bon-Ton stores is donated to Goodwill and sold in Goodwill’s retail locations. Revenues from those sales help fund job training and services to assist people in finding jobs and building their careers. Goodwill also uses the funds for support services including free tax preparation, financial education and youth mentoring. Both cash and merchandise donations from this fall’s Bon-Ton Goodwill Sale will provide an estimated 275,000 hours of Goodwill services to people who face challenges to finding employment.

In exchange for each item donated, Bon-Ton shoppers received coupons for up to 25 percent off merchandise at their local Bon-Ton, Bergner’s, Boston Store, Carson’s, Elder-Beerman, Herberger’s or Younkers stores. The discount applied to women’s, men’s and children’s apparel; shoes; handbags; home items; and luggage, with 15 percent off on cosmetics and fragrances.

“Our customers know that when they shop at Bon-Ton, they will find the brands they love for the entire family as well as wonderful items for the entire home,” said Kathryn Bufano, president and chief executive officer of The Bon-Ton Stores, Inc. “They also know how important and easy it is to donate during the Goodwill Sale and help others in our community.”
