Texas Goodwill® Association Exec Honored with Goodwill Advocacy Leader Award

WASHINGTON, DC – Goodwill Industries International has honored Lori Henning, executive director of the Texas Association of Goodwills (TAG), with the 2015 Goodwill Advocacy Leader Award for helping develop a state public policy agenda that promotes Goodwill’s business and mission in Texas. Henning was recognized on Tuesday, April 14 during a reception in Washington, DC, as part of Goodwill’s annual advocacy event.
Henning has served as the TAG executive director for 12 years. In that capacity, she represents the interests of 14 Texas Goodwill agencies. She regularly meets with key state legislators and staff, educating them on the needs of people with disabilities and other barriers to employment, including education, vocational training, and financial stability, and the impact these issues have on finding jobs and staying employed.
She has been a tireless advocate for policies that focus on workforce development, job creation, and skills attainment. During the last two years, Henning has supported legislation that enhanced youth development and employment for people with disabilities, and wrote language for bills related to charitable donations. She has also worked on bills that specifically increase funding for adult and basic education services. In 2009 and 2011, she worked with a coalition to pass electronic waste and reuse laws in Texas.
“Lori is an impassioned advocate for Goodwill’s mission and a familiar face at the Texas State Capitol when legislative issues impact the people that Goodwill serves through its programs and services,” said Jim Gibbons, president and CEO of Goodwill Industries International. “She’s developed long-standing relationships with policymakers so that Goodwill’s voice is heard.”
Combined, the 14 Texas Goodwill agencies served more than 146,000 people last year.
