Texas Goodwill® Executive Recognized with Award for Innovation

David Cox Receives Watkins Award for Mission Advancement
FORT WORTH — Goodwill Industries International has named David Cox, the president and CEO of Goodwill Industries of Fort Worth (TX), as the recipient of its 2017 Robert E. and Charlotte Watkins Award for Mission Advancement.
The award is presented to a Goodwill leader — CEO, staff or volunteer — who has made an innovative contribution to the advancement of the Goodwill mission.
Cox has spent 18 years with the organization, assuming his current role in 2013. Among the programs he has instituted is the GoodLife program, which provides support services and resources to all Goodwill employees, and the Good Hand Up program, which assists individuals who are homeless in gaining and maintaining employment. Another key program implemented during Cox’s tenure is the Goodwill Works program, which addresses many issues that represent challenges to achieving sustained employment.
“His insight and initiative to expand mission services throughout the community have been exemplary,” said Frank Shiels, past board chair of Goodwill Industries of Fort Worth. “Under his leadership, the organization expanded mission services with different programs servicing more individuals in our community.”
Over the past year, Goodwill Industries of Forth Worth served 1,300 people experiencing homelessness and placed 750 into employment through its Goodwill Works program. That compares with 307 served and 120 placed in the previous 12 months.
Cox received his award at an awards luncheon at Goodwill Industries International’s Delegate Assembly in Louisville, KY, on Monday, June 26, 2017.
