The Bon-Ton Goodwill Sale Collected More Than Three Million Pounds of Donations for Goodwill®

ROCKVILLE, MD — The Fall Goodwill Sale, a partnership with The Bon-Ton Stores Inc. (NASDAQ: BONT) and Goodwill Industries International, collected more than 3 million pounds of clothing and textile donations to benefit Goodwill’s job training programs and community-based services. The donations have an estimated value of approximately $12.5 million in revenue, which will be used to fund programs to help people find jobs and build their careers in the communities where they were collected.
The Fall Goodwill Sale, which took place at 273 Bon-Ton Stores locations from September 19 through October 5, rewarded shoppers who brought donations for Goodwill. In exchange for their donations, customers received discount coupons for the latest fall fashions and accessories at their local Bon-Ton, Bergner’s, Boston Store, Carson’s, Elder-Beerman, Herberger’s or Younkers stores. Donations will be sold in Goodwill stores, and revenues earned from their sale will fund programs enabling people to earn employment in a variety of fields, including construction, financial services, health care, manufacturing, retail and many others.
“Goodwill needs donations to provide employment and skills training opportunities for people in our communities who face challenges to finding employment,” said Jim Gibbons, president and CEO of Goodwill Industries International. “These job seekers will directly benefit from the donations collected at the Bon-Ton Fall Goodwill Sale, and donors can take pride in knowing that their used clothing and textiles are making a positive impact in the lives of their friends and neighbors.”
Goodwill also provides community-based services that complement its career programs, including child care, computer classes, financial education, transportation, and more. For 19 years, the Bon-Ton Goodwill Sale has been a favorite time-honored tradition among donors and shoppers, giving them opportunities to give back to Goodwill while purchasing the new items they need. The collaboration between Bon-Ton and Goodwill has generated an estimated potential value of more than $223 million in revenue to support Goodwill’s services to the community.
