YWCA USA, Goodwill® and United Way Worldwide to Hold Press Call Highlighting Impact of COVID-19 on Funding, Staffing and Community Service

CEOs will discuss how Congress can build on the CARES Act and offer other policy recommendations to help the nonprofit sector survive this pandemic

Washington, DC — Next Tuesday, April 14, CEOs from three leading charitable nonprofit organizations will hold a press call to discuss the impact COVID-19 has had on their funding, staffing and community programming, and offer policy recommendations to Congress on how to address the specific needs of the nonprofit sector. Charitable nonprofits play a critical role in our national economy and are valued problem solvers in communities. The nonprofit sector employs more than 12 million Americans and has been on the frontlines of responding to the COVID-19 pandemic.

YWCA USA is offering vital services, including providing emergency childcare services to first responders and supporting survivors of domestic violence as the threat of abuse increases across the country. In local communities across the nation, Goodwill organizations are focusing their efforts on community relief, including collecting donations of first aid supplies; providing vehicles, staffing and other equipment to hospitals and food banks; collecting donations for food banks; providing smocks for healthcare workers; and providing job preparation skills online. United Way Worldwide is focused on helping vulnerable communities access food, shelter and vital information needed to cope with the pandemic, in addition to operating the 211 non-emergency hotline, covering 95 percent of U.S. communities, which is seeing a 200- to 300-percent increase in call volume since the onset of the pandemic.

The entire sector is holding communities together with essential services amid the health and economic crisis, and it needs support immediately. The CEOs will outline specific proposals to Congress on how to address the unique needs of nonprofits during this crisis.
