New York City Goodwill and Uber Partner for Donation Delivery

Goodwill Industries of Greater New York and Northern New Jersey (Astoria) recently engaged in an exclusive partnership with the popular ride-sharing app Uber. The two organizations provided New Yorkers with an opportunity transport their gently used items to a nearby Goodwill retail store without having to step foot inside a subway.

Grand Rapids Goodwill Helps to Collect 1 Million Graduation Gowns

Every Dress Has a Story in Local Goodwill®, Girl Scouts Partnership

On October 28, Goodwill Industries of Greater Grand Rapids (MI) and Girl Scouts of Michigan Shore to Shore launched Every Dress Has a Story!, a fashion-forward dress drive. The two organizations have partnered to collect gently used dresses from the community to assist the Grand Rapids Goodwill in its mission of providing job training and placement services to area residents. While donors can bring a dress to any Grand Rapids area Goodwill store, members of the community can also host donation bins at their places of business or community centers. Bins can be delivered and picked up by the agency’s staff.

Northern Illinois Goodwill Supports Students in Their Return to School

Group of three students wear backpacksIn preparation for the new school year, Goodwill Industries of Northern Illinois (Rockford) recently partnered with Project 16:49, a local nonprofit organization, to host a backpack donation drive benefiting Rock County homeless youth. Community members were encouraged to donate school supplies and nonperishable goods for the event at the Rockford Goodwill’s Retail Store/Donation Center. Goodwill Industries of Northern Illinois has also awarded seven local community colleges $31,500 in scholarship funds targeting persons with challenges to advance their education.

NE Goodwill Donation Campaign Strengthens Community

Six Lincoln, NE, neighborhoods donated nearly 18,000 pounds of clothing, furniture and household items to Goodwill Industries Serving Southeast Nebraska during its Neighborhood Challenge this summer. From May 26 to July 6, the Goodwill® hosted a friendly competition to encourage neighborhood associations to donate garage sale leftovers and other household items to Goodwill. The top three neighborhoods received funding for neighborhood-improvement projects.

Microsoft Supports Hawaii Goodwill with Grant, Donation Drive

Boston University, Goodwill® Collect More than 90 Tons of Donations

In just four years, the weight of goods donated by Boston University (BU) students during Morgan Memorial Goodwill’s (Boston) Goodwill Not Landfill donation drive has nearly tripled. From April 22 to May 20, the university placed Goodwill bins in 15 locations – including every dorm – so that students could easily give away items they no longer needed as they cleared out their rooms to leave for the summer. The Goodwill also placed bins at the front of its store near campus so students who live off campus could also contribute.

Goodwills to Engage Volunteers During Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service

An increasing number of Americans are using the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday to honor Dr. King’s legacy by volunteering in their communities. The holiday takes place on January 21, 2013, this year, the same day as U.S. President Barack Obama’s second inauguration. Volunteers are using this day as ‘a day on, not a day off’ to address the needs in their communities and help create solutions to social problems. Local Goodwill® agencies are engaging volunteers on this day for a number of community service projects.
