#Relief4Charities in the New Congress

The year-end COVID-19 relief package passed by Congress extended a number of programs and supports through the middle of March 2021. Lawmakers are now negotiating the details of an additional relief measure before the deadline expires. President Biden outlined his focus areas for a bill prior to his inauguration. The full bill hasn’t been written yet, and it remains to be seen if it will be taken up in one large package, piecemeal, or if it will even be bipartisan. Regardless of the procedural and legislative vehicle, politics need to be put aside as the nation’s charities are still in dire need.

Goodwill continues to join other leaders in the charitable sector to keep our issues top of mind for lawmakers as nonprofits are faced with increased demand for our services and increased costs to keep operations going in order to fulfill our missions with limited resources. Continue to engage with us by following @GoodwillCapHill on Twitter and sharing alerts and updates via our Legislative Action Center in order to help amplify our message.

Click here to contact your members of Congress and ask that they provide #Relief4Charities.

Specifically, we’re seeking:

  1. Nonprofit-specific grants, refundable loans and tax credits.
  2. Strengthened charitable giving incentives.
  3. Full unemployment insurance reimbursement to nonprofits that self-insure these benefits.
  4. Aid to state and local governments.

Nonprofits like Goodwill have an important role to play in recovery efforts post-pandemic, and we need support from Congress to help us do so. Thanks in advance for being a part of our Congressional outreach efforts.
