Becoming a father isn’t easy. It can be exhausting navigating something so new that it disrupts a large part of life. This Father’s Day, we want to share the story of Jaike, who overcame the initial challenges of fatherhood with support from Goodwill of North Georgia (Decatur).
While Jaike was adjusting to fatherhood, he was also working a demanding overnight job in a factory that made life much more difficult for him and his family. He wanted to make a change, so he enrolled in a local Goodwill® program.
Jaike wanted stability, a better career path and tools to support long-term self-sufficiency for himself and his growing family. Through the program, he decided to start working toward a Supply Chain Management CDL training.
It wasn’t easy for him. Jaike would leave his night shift job and come straight to class. He was exhausted but determined to absorb every lesson and pass every benchmark. His instructors saw first-hand Jaike’s resilience, focus and commitment.
Through the program, Jaike gained hands-on skills behind the wheel but also soft skills like time management, communication and problem solving (all things that a new father needs).
That hard work and dedication paid off. Jaike successfully secured an over-the-road truck driving position. It provided the financial freedom he needed and more stability for his family. Not to mention, Jaike enjoyed the work a lot more than his time in the factory.
Feeling happier and more secure, Jaike was able to show up as the kind of father he wanted to be. This Father’s Day, we celebrate his dedication and that of other fathers looking to build a better life for their families.
