My Story: Shaheera Alnatshia

International Women’s Day, celebrated annually on March 8, is a day to recognize the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women around the world. Many remarkable women have used Goodwill® career coaching and navigation services, job training and other support services to improve their lives. One such woman is Shaheera Alnatshia.

When Shaheera, a mother of four, first came to Goodwill Industries of Middle Tennessee, Inc. (Nashville) after emigrating from Jordan, she had faced many challenges. She had experienced domestic violence, homelessness and joblessness, to name a few. Upon her arrival in Tennessee, she was seeking a better life for herself and her children.

With Goodwill’s help, she trained for and earned a Google IT Support Professional Certificate, which led to her landing an apprenticeship at Accenture. Shaheera also completed the Google Project Management Professional Certificate course through Coursera, and is thriving in a rewarding career as an application development analyst with Accenture. The permanent position came with a substantial raise in salary, as well as full inclusion in a culture of learning, where she has access to many learning and development opportunities.

“You cannot imagine how we are feeling right now — me and my kids. We are all so happy,” Shaheera said. “Goodwill changed our lives in so many ways, and we are forever grateful.”
