Resolve to Help People in Your Community by Supporting Goodwill

resolve iHow was your workout this morning?  That’s okay.  I haven’t gone to the gym yet either, but I made the resolution to do so.  The start of 2015 provides an opportunity for us to strongly declare what changes we will make and how we will start anew.  The same holds true for Congress.  This year marks the beginning of a new session and 58 new lawmakers looking to resolve to make changes. 

Perhaps the new Congress will resolve to reauthorize some programs that are long overdue including the Older Americans Act and the Temporary Assistance to Needy Families program. Or maybe they will make sweeping reforms to the tax code, while hopefully protecting charitable giving.  This could be the year where the Senate finally helps advance rights for people with disabilities by ratifying the UN Convention on the Rights of People with Disabilities. 

However, none of this will happen without our advocates resolving to take action.  As you consider what your New Year’s resolution may be, we encourage you to resolve to lend your voice to support Goodwill and the people we serve.  For those of us who will wait until Monday to follow through with that resolution to hit gym, there are some simple actions you can take to support our efforts today. You can introduce yourself to those new lawmakers at the local, state, and federal level and tell them what issues are important to you.  As a supporter of Goodwill you can also lend your voice by:
