Apprenticeship Week Celebrates Opportunities for Workers and Businesses

In 2015, President Obama proclaimed the week of November 2 as the first annual National Apprenticeship Week (NAW).  Through more than 300 events in 47 states, communities large and small recognized the important role apprentices play in offering employers an opportunity to develop a highly skilled workforce and to grow their business while providing career seekers with a chance to earn a salary and learn the skills necessary to succeed.
Apprenticeships have trained millions of American workers, offering job seekers opportunities to earn a competitive wage and providing the specialized skills required to succeed and helping American businesses compete in today’s global economy.
Between November 14-20, 2016 the U.S. Department of Labor will celebrate the second annual National Apprenticeship Week.  NAW offers registered apprenticeship sponsors the opportunity to showcase their programs, facilities, and apprentices, and gives employers, education, industry associations, labor, elected officials and other critical partners the opportunity to highlight how registered apprenticeship meets their needs for a skilled workforce.
You can learn more about NAW and how to participate from the Department of Labor. However, this key program, and other workforce programs are at risk.  Congress has yet to complete action 11 of the 12 FY 2017 appropriations bills, including the bill that funds our nation’s workforce programs.  Take action by clicking below, and tell Congress to complete the FY 2017 funding bills this year and support our workforce programs.
