My Story: Amber Thompson

I am Amber Thompson, a lead worker at the Rappahannock Goodwill Laundry, and I am dedicated to my career here!

I began training more than 10 years ago as a transitional employment student right out of high school. I was very shy and didn’t talk much at first but with the help of my job coach I started talking to my coworkers. Since then, I have grown both personally and as an employee of the Rappahannock Goodwill Industries (Fredricksburg, VA) laundry team.

I first was a production worker and then promoted to a lead worker. When I was asked what I thought about Rappahannock Goodwill, I said that I enjoy my job at the laundry facility, especially folding and bagging the linens that I’m responsible for on a daily basis.

The director of the facility thought that my job skills and my ability to work with the E&T sponsored employees, numbers and the contracts are so good that he nominated me for the Goodwill Industries International Achiever of the Year Award.

I’m the first person that has been nominated from the Rappahnnock Goodwill’s Laundry’s employment and training team. I work on the tables with the E&T sponsored employees and help them learn different tasks. I’m doing the right thing by helping them learn and keep their job. I do the best I can everyday, I’m excited to come to work every day and I show that to the people I work with.

When asked where I see myself at my next job, I said next job. I don’t want to go anywhere. I just like to work here, and I am proud to be a part of Goodwill.
