My Goodwill Story – Salvador

This Earth Month, it’s good to remember that there are a lot of things individuals can do for the Earth. Whether that’s shopping secondhand, repurposing items around your house or working in clean tech fields, we can all find ways to align our lives with our passion for sustainability.

This month, we’re sharing the story of Salvador as a reminder that not only is supporting the environment good for the world, but it can also open the door to new opportunities for those who need it.

Salvador is a young individual who was impacted by the justice system. That made finding steady, gainful employment difficult. Thankfully, he was referred to Goodwill West Michigan (Muskegon) through the district probation office.

The team at Goodwill supported Salvador in pursuing his education and provided job coaching and mentoring to help him find the right path and gain the skills to maintain his new career long-term.

Thanks to his hard work, Salvador landed an internship with Chart House Energy and is now learning first-hand how to install solar panels. This opportunity gives Salvador the skills he needs to find full-time employment in the clean energy field.

More importantly, this process taught Salvador that when he puts in the work, he can make great things happen. When asked about his experience with Goodwill, Salvador said, “I really feel like my hard work is paying off. It feels good to be potentially working the job I wanted. I never thought I’d be here.”
