Bright New Beginnings for 2016

As the end of 2015 approaches, it’s natural to begin contemplating changes and improvements for the new year ahead. The ringing in of 2016 isn’t just about throwing a great party – although, let’s be honest, going the extra mile to find fun dress and décor is a wonderful way to start on a positive note – it’s also about fresh beginnings. Here are a couple of great ways to send off this year in style and one great new start to inspire next year’s goals…

Have you ever heard the advice to dress for the job you want, not the job you have? I feel like that fits for a lot of other situations, too, like dressing appropriately for the year you want! It’s all about intention and perception. Put your best foot forward and do all you can to fit into the role you would like to achieve and others will notice. If you want to reach your goals in 2016, approach the year dressed for success. Goodwill Serving Eastern Nebraska and Southwest Iowa (Omaha) shared this shimmery ensemble (purchased for just $30, jewelry, shoes and all!) that catches the eye. Rock the year ahead by celebrating New Year’s Eve in something dazzling that gives you confidence. You never know what’s waiting for you on the Goodwill racks!

Speaking of glitter, there are two elements for New Year’s décor that will turn any environment into a mini-Times Square: shimmering lights and clocks. This easy party layout was pulled off by The Party Teacher for her kids and their neighborhood friends. My favorite part is the tabletop clock display which she sourced from Goodwill. Their mismatched quality brings many exciting layers to the impending year change. A little glitter spray paint could even make an oddly colored clock fit right in! And with clocks scattered around, there’s no way you’ll miss the big moment.

Once that ball drops, it’s all about starting fresh. Bernice worried that after 25 years out of work and two felonies, she wouldn’t be able to get a job. Thankfully, Goodwill Industries of Middle Tennessee (Nashville) saw her potential and supported her in her new beginning as their employee. She’s been a part of the Goodwill team now for more than five years, smiling her way through the day. Watch her story for a little inspiration to start your new year with hope and a fresh perspective. Embrace the possibilities of your future and anything is possible.

Bernice’s story isn’t unusual, either. Goodwill believes that career navigation and skills attainment can lead to long-term economic stability for individuals, their families and the greater community. Goodwill believes in the power of work to change lives so their whole business model is really about fresh starts and reaching goals! What goals do you have for 2016? We’d love to hear!
