I have a business administration degree from Emmanuel College, but had a hard time finding full time employment. I had been looking for full-time work for almost five years. A musculoskeletal birth defect caused me to have only a partial left arm, and I believe that this was the reason I was not being hired.

I had a choice: I could sit at home, feel sorry for myself, and get depressed, or I could do something about it.

Rather than get depressed, I took action and began classes through Goodwill Industries of Middle Georgia and the CSRA’s vocational rehabilitation services. Through the program, I completed my community training at Little Scholars Academy in Lake Oconee and was soon hired permanently and full time as the administrative assistant.

As the administrative assistant, I am now able to use all of the knowledge I gained from both my business administration degree and the classes at Goodwill’s vocational rehabilitation program.

As for my life now, I have a sense of fulfillment. I am not judged by anyone. I am happy to be pulling my own weight and have my independence.
My dream is to go back to school and get my master’s degree, and then to own my own business.

I believe that as long as you believe in yourself and have goals, you can reach them.
