With Memorial Day being the unofficial kick-off to summer, I’ve got afternoon BBQs, pool parties and pre-Hollywood Bowl concert picnics on the mind!
I just did a major cold weather clothing closet edit (say that five times fast!) and dropped off a few bags to Goodwill® filled with some sweaters that didn’t make it out of my storage box this winter. I love that my donation is helping to create thousands of jobs within the Goodwill family – I always have a smile when I drop off my bags!
With the wool and tweed out of the closet, I need to make room for some warm weather pieces and I’ve had my eye on two in particular — a ModCloth Pull Up A Cherry Dress that retails for $57.99, and a Rebecca Taylor belted dress that retails for $350.
I wanted two easy summer dresses that would work for the season without breaking the bank, and this combo of printed/flirty and solid/bold was exactly what I was on the hunt for. Goodwill, here I come!
I headed to two separate locations in Los Angeles (one in Silver Lake and one in West Hollywood) and found the perfect lookalike dresses, both for $7.95.
ModCloth lookalike:
As soon as I saw the cherry print, I knew I had found my dress! This piece is by Ruby Rox and has the same retro feel as the ModCloth dress. I paired my dress with a thrifted XOXO woven beach tote for the beach but this dress doesn’t even need any accessories to make a splash
Rebecca Taylor lookalike:
I found this American Apparel wrap-style dress that was the same shade of purple and had similar, slightly capped-sleeves and a mid-thigh length. I paired my dress with more thrifted goodies – a vintage scarf, a J Crew turquoise grosgrain belt, and a woven clutch to complete the look!
We came pretty close to the originals, didn’t we? And we did it on a budget! I’m looking forward to wearing these all summer!
