Memorial Day Outfit Inspiration

By Felicia Czochanski

With Memorial Day falling on a Monday this year, the official kick off of summer may seem more like a soft launch. But with a loud outfit that shows your patriotic spirit and self-expression, you can head into a summer full of warm weather, beach days, and barbeques in style. Whether your summer goals are to travel to a new destination, finally make the first move and go on that date you’ve been dreaming of, or to live it up with your friends in your favorite city, these Memorial Day Weekend outfits can be repurposed throughout the coming months and make any occasion special.

The best thing? These outfits can be pulled together using clothes already in your closet as the base, paired with statement pieces from your favorite Goodwill store. Especially for a holiday that honors those who lost their lives while defending their country, it’s good karma to shop second-hand at a nonprofit like Goodwill, knowing how Goodwill is dedicated to supporting military veterans and their families. From partnerships with the Department of Veterans Affairs, to supporting veterans who are seeking job training and employment, Goodwill maintains a prolonged commitment to help veterans and their families obtain financial wellness. Every purchase you make at Goodwill supports the organization’s initiatives like this, going back into the local community.

As you prepare your looks for a weekend, and then summer of fun, think about some of the items in your closet that you haven’t worn in a while and might be able to repurpose with a bit of accessorizing or layering. With those pieces as your outfit staples, you can take a quick trip into Goodwill to find the pieces that complete your looks. Keep reading for some outfit inspiration that I was able to pull together from my own closet, and of course, a trip to my favorite Goodwill store!

  1. Metallic Accents

Stars and stripes forever! This top has been hiding in my closet for the last few years, and I love the fun gold metallic accent. This can easily be turned into a Memorial Day Weekend outfit with a pair of shorts and sandals from Goodwill, like this silver metallic square toed pair I found on my last shopping trip. It’s also versatile enough to wear on repeat all summer.

  1. Summer Whites

The tradition of wearing white after Memorial Day is back, with a season kick off in this adorable, thrifted Kristina Grimaldi romper. I love wearing white as my main color palette in the summer, because not only does it accentuate a tan, but it’s so fun to spice up with colorful shoes and accessories. With a romper like this, I’ll pair it with color block heels and a fun purse for my pops of color. For Memorial Day, red and blue will be the accents, but throughout the summer I’m more of a Barbie pink gal!
