The winddown of summer fun has started and sweater weather is officially here. As we begin the descent in temperature, beach days become a thing of the past and being cozy and nesting in our homes takes priority. A trip to Goodwill can help you get ready for comfy season without breaking the bank. As we begin to dream of a fall or winter getaway, think about the convenience of escaping into a good book that you found second hand.
It’s so easy to fall into a shopping routine. When you first walk into your local Goodwill store, what’s the first area you go to? Maybe it’s a lucky rack, where you’ve found tons of great pieces before. Maybe it’s the shoe section because you always seem to find your size. Home goods? There’s always awesome vintage china and seasonal décor to be found. But what about the books? Many Goodwill stores have entire sections set up with shelves and donated books – some gently used and others still brand new. It’s a section that can often be overlooked, but as we head into the colder months and curling up on the couch with a cup of tea and a blanket sounds idyllic, this is the section that can offer a whole new escape for $2 or less.
You don’t have to be a bookworm like me to understand that books of all genres have so much to offer us – though if you’re looking for book recommendations check out my Instagram page @booksareclassy for inspiration! Below I’m sharing bookish outfit pairings that will be sure to keep you cozy all fall.
1. Cropped Knit Sweater x Fire Keeper’s Daughter
As soon as I saw this fire engine red sweater on the Goodwill rack I knew I found a winner. The find only kept getting better once I saw it was Anthropologie brand Maeve and was incredibly soft, and my size! I paired the sweater with the book Fire Keeper’s Daughter – a Reese’s Book Club pick that has been on my to-read list for a while. The book is a coming of age story (and thriller!) featuring an 18 year-old girl growing up on a reservation. It’s been out for a while, and so you’ll likely be able to find the hardcover or paperback version second-hand!
2.Fuzzy V Neck Sweater x The Patron Saint of Second Chances
I love most things Lovers and Friends, and this sweater is no exception! It’s so soft and surprisingly heavy, making it perfect to throw on with leggings in the colder months. It was a steal for $8 at my favorite NYC Goodwill store. I paired it with The Patron Saint of Second Chances, a heartwarming story that will make you laugh out loud and imagine yourself escaping into a picturesque Italian town instead of at home curled up in a blanket.
3.Chunky Knit Detail x Fourth Child
Can we talk about how this picture looks like the epitome of fall? I’m going to be wearing this chunky Madewell wool-blend sweater all fall. It matches perfectly with the Fourth Child’s book cover, an amazing read that shares a unique perspective on reinvention and relationships. The next time you’re at Goodwill, don’t forget to stop by the bookshelves and see if there are any titles you could give new life to this fall!
