My Goodwill Story: Stephanie

One of our favorite holidays happens every August: National Thrift Shop Day! Dedicated thrift shoppers know the thrill of the hunt. You never know what might be on the shelves ready for you to take home.  

For Stephanie, there was even more waiting for her at her local Goodwill®. She was shopping at a location run by Evansville Goodwill (IN) when she learned about the free digital literacy training she could complete with Goodwill.  

Unlike many who come to Goodwill for support, Stephanie was not looking for a job. She simply wanted to become more independent using a computer. She felt like she couldn’t complete simple tasks without having to ask her grandchildren for help. With so much of life taking place online, she wanted to develop skills on her own.  

Free Digital Literacy Training 

After the course, she was better able to navigate the digital world, read emails and complete the basic tasks she needed to live more independently.  

Aside from what she learned, Stephanie also enjoyed being part of the learning community at Goodwill. She said, “I enjoy the class because I get to be around other learners, and I look forward to getting out of the house every day.” 

Sometimes, the smallest actions can lead to a positive change. Shopping at Goodwill gave Stephanie new skills, new friends and something new to do with her days.
