Be a Voter this November

Election Day 2018 is less than 90 Days away. And as states across the country wrap up their primaries voters are starting to focus their attention on this year’s midterm elections. With this election right around the corner, Americans should do what’s needed to make sure they can cast a vote this November.

One might ask, why are midterm elections so important? It’s because the upcoming mid-term elections will shape American politics for the next two years and beyond. Who’s all on the ballot this November 6th? All 435 members of the House of Representatives, 35 seats in the 100-member Senate, and 36 out of 50 state governorships, along with many state and local offices will all be on the ballot.

To help ensure our supporters, customers, program participants, and advocates are able to vote this November, Goodwill Industries International (GII) is one of the nearly 2,000 nonprofits working with Nonprofit Vote to promote National Voter Registration Day (NVRD).

NVRD will take place Tuesday, September 25, 2018. On this day volunteers and organizations from all over the country will “hit the streets” in a single day of coordinated field, technology and media efforts, to create awareness of voter registration opportunities to reach tens of thousands of voters who may not register otherwise.

Participating in local and national elections is vital to our democracy. Nonprofits across the country share in the responsibility to help those people we work with engage in the political process in a nonpartisan manner.  As 501(c)(3) charitable nonprofits, organizations like Goodwill have to refrain from endorsing any specific candidates or party.

If you personally want to be involved in NVRD this year, the first thing you should do is make sure you are registered to vote and that your registration is up to date (especially if you moved since you last voted). After that the next best way to be involved is to register to be an official partner during NVRD.  In doing so, you’ll be able to help those people in your community and make sure they are able to voters this November too.
