Cozy Fall Décor Inspiration for the Thrifty Shopper

By Felicia Czochanski

There’s something magic about cozy season. It’s the cool down from a summer of sunshine and fun! I find the best way to enter a season is to welcome it, from a change in wardrobe to a change in home aesthetic. With tons of signs literally saying, “Hello Fall” and “Happy Autumn,” we’re in great shape to do so! Considering people like to switch up their décor aesthetics every few years, seasonal decorations like these signs aren’t hard to find second-hand. Shopping this way will not only keep them out of the landfill but will also be more wallet-friendly than heading to a retail store for the same or similar items.

You’ll want to match your fall décor to your own décor style and personality, and these Goodwill finds (and personalized DIY hacks) can help you do exactly that this season. Check out the below pictures for inspiration, curated from real Goodwill shoppers like yourself!

  1. Farmer’s Market Chic

There’s nothing like walking into a home with a cozy fall nook to get you in the mood for fall. The soft colors against the chalky white background set the scene for the rest of the décor in the house. Fall décor can be loud – with traditional orange pumpkins and black cats – or it can stay in the more subtle zone. Don’t forget that if you find something at Goodwill like a pumpkin in the wrong color, you can always DIY and paint it into exactly what you’re looking for!

  1. Cozy Textures

I absolutely loved stumbling upon this Goodwill shopper’s Instagram post about her fuzzy fan purchase! (Reminder, tag @goodwillintl in your photos for a chance to be featured in a future blog post.) It was so relatable – she found a really unique item and was debating purchasing it for a variety of reasons, including the $8 price point for something she didn’t know if she would use. Long story short, she bought it and it’s the star of the vintage mantle décor set up above! Sometimes when shopping at Goodwill you have to trust your gut. Shopping for home décor is no exception!

  1. DIY Elegance

Less can be more when revamping your seasonal décor. This entryway tables looks chic and beautiful with an elegant color palette and just a few on-theme items. I love the velvet pumpkin textures, especially next to the DIY painted vase. For an easy hack, grab an old vase from the Goodwill home section and paint it jet black like this Goodwill shopper did. Stack it on books or old frames to add more layers to the seasonal atmosphere.

  1. Autumn Harvest

You don’t have to head all the way to the pumpkin patch to bring the farm to your living area. I have to say the scarecrow in the skirt is probably my favorite piece of this Goodwill shopper’s fall décor set up! Each of these items is something you could stumble upon or DIY using things from the Goodwill home section. Take that step stool for example – maybe you donated one similar when your children grew out of it but seeing one at Goodwill brought back nostalgia. Take it home and give it a few brush strokes of white paint to match the rest of your dusty fall aesthetic. Then use it as a base for other decorations you know you’ll use each season!
