Warm weather and sunshine can get the creative juices flowing. Plus, these longer days mean we have more time to get to all the projects we’ve been dreaming of doing.

Decluttering and organizing have long been a great way to start a new season with a sense of freshness and possibility. Letting go of what no longer serves you to make room for what you need at the moment can be such an important part of the process, but one that oftentimes gets skipped. Look at the different parts of your life to see where you want to focus first. For me, finding a matching pair of my earrings has been one of those areas. It was finally time to do something about it with the help of my DIY earring holder.

Sometimes there’s nothing more satisfying than finally acting on the thing you have been thinking about for a long time — especially when it works out even better than you’d imagined. For this upcycle project, my first step is heading to Goodwill to see what items I can find to recycle. I was in luck and found the perfect picture frame and a pile of folded burlap. The wheels were turning already, and I could see how this project could come together so easily.

Next step, head home to gather the rest of the materials. I already had scissors and luckily for this DIY, that was really all that I needed! I took the glass out of the picture frame and cut out a piece of burlap to fit inside the frame. Then I put the back of the frame on, and just like that I was looking at my new earring holder!

It’s amazing to see how quickly and easily you can create something so useful. I will not only use it every day, but it will make my life easier, too. Finally, I can find all my earring pairs and keep them in one nice, organized place. In total, this upcycled earring holder costs less than $10 — and there’s no plastic involved. This is much more affordable than anything I might have purchased in a store at retail price.

Depending on the size of your earring collection, you might want to take advantage of the rest of the burlap and pick out a few more frames or one big one at Goodwill.

I love shopping at Goodwill and being part of a movement that reduces demand for retail items. Upcycling can be fun, easy, affordable and eco-friendly. It’s also a way to get exactly what you want without paying for something custom. Have fun with your DIY projects and let the creativity flow to make them more you!
