Right before winter starts, there’s a natural inclination for a lot of us to start fluffing our nests for the long season ahead. Even if you live in a warm climate, now—before the craziness of the holidays hits—is still a great time to find some quick organization solutions and add a few inspiring touches to the room where you retreat at the end of the day. Here are some ways you can do good for your community and give your bedroom a boost at the same time.

This Veterans Day, We Can Do More to Thank a Veteran for Their Service

No matter what we believe about military engagement, we can certainly come together in support of the individuals and families who risk everything to support the country. Last year Goodwill organizations served more than 60,000 military members and veterans and more than 24,000 military families with career readiness and transition support, mental health services, family financial preparation, education and career connections for veterans and military members and their families.

My Story: Carra Wilson

Carra Wilson is an advocate for people with disabilities and other barriers to employment, a true example that success in your professional and personal life is possible when you have both courage and a strong work ethic and seek help when needed. “I used to think I would never be able to keep a job, but through my dedication and hard work plus the support I received from Goodwill, I now have a job that I love.”

The Science of Building Relationships at Work

Building and maintaining relationships at work are often critical to advancing on the job. Having the technical skills to do the job gets you in the door, but it isn’t enough to help you advance into management and leadership positions. For that, you need to understand how to relate to others.

Olive Green: The New Neutral

Side-by-side photos of a woman in a leopard print top, olive vest, and black knee-high boots wearing a fedora, indoors and outdoors.

In the past, green was not a color that typically found its way into my closet. This year, though, I’ve been snatching up frocks, pants, and tops in a marvelously neutral olive hue at an unstoppable rate. How has it taken me so many years to realize that this color all at once matches the earthiness of browns, brightens up black, and adds depth to white and gray ensembles?

Be Vocal, Vote Local!

The so called “off-year elections”, when neither Congress nor the office of President are up for a vote, typically draws a low turnout and there aren’t many raced on the ballot. Many candidates may even be unopposed. As we continue to countdown to the 2018 mid-term elections and focus on the national stage, let us not forget the important role that communities play and that every voice matters.

Where introverts gain their competitive advantage is in their natural tendency to prepare and reflect before entering a situation. If you’re an introvert, here’s how you can leverage your preparation abilities for interview success.

Congressional Trick or Treat

Heading into Halloween, there are some Congressional priorities that are picking up momentum and things are getting scary for a few programs that we care about. The government is currently funded through December 8th and Congress needs to decide how much funding to appropriate to twelve different agencies that oversee programs, including those that make up the workforce investment system, in order to avoid a government shutdown.

My Story: Christopher Cockrell

I don’t think that I am doing anything out of the ordinary, just taking care of my household and doing what I am supposed to be doing. I have gone through the entire process because I don’t want my son to say that his dad has a disability so he couldn’t work. I want my son to say that his dad has a disability and he still works! I am playing with the cards that I was dealt and I can’t give up!
