Sunshine, BBQs and spending time with friends can be the recipe for a perfect Fourth of July weekend to celebrate the summer holiday. If you’re lucky enough to get a long weekend off work for the holiday, you might be starting to think about the perfect look for your plans. Whether you’re heading down to the beach, out for a picnic or to a relative’s place for a barbeque, don’t forget to check out your local Goodwill® store for some secondhand red, white and blue pieces.
Thrifting clothing and decorations around holidays are eco-friendly and more affordable ways to shop because you are saving themed goods from the waste stream, while also avoiding holiday item upcharges around the date of celebration. Not only that but when you purchase these items for just a fraction of the price, you can feel more empowered to truly make them your own — whether it’s to craft a festive décor DIY or pull together a statement-themed outfit. Saving money on secondhand items can help make a fuller budget for some of the other aspects of the celebration, like snacks! If you’re an especially lucky Goodwill thrifter, you might even find something perfect at first glance on the racks and shelves.
As you’re starting to think about the holiday weekend, check out the below that I found on a quick trip to my own local Goodwill store. Some of these are ready to wear, making things even easier.
Stars & Stripes for the Fourth of July
You can’t go wrong wearing stars and stripes for July Fourth. These two festive t-shirts were just waiting for someone to pick them up off the rack at Goodwill. I love how one is a classic v-neck and the other is a Victoria’s Secret PINK scoop neck with the American flag pocket detail. I know those tees are particularly soft and comfortable, so that made it a no-brainer for me.
Talk of the Fourth of July BBQ
If you’re looking for something more creative that screams statement top — look no further than this tank which I found on the rack at the same Goodwill store. If I were heading to a BBQ for the Fourth of July weekend, I would have scooped this one up in no time.
On-Theme Understated
I’ll admit that my style lately is more of an understated look with pops of color. Don’t get me wrong though, I love a good theme. I found this adorable peplum top with navy and white checked pattern on the bottom reminiscent of picnic-core (an excellent opportunity.) I’d pair this with a pop of deep red lipstick or bright red sandals to lean into the holiday in a way that I know I’ll be able to rinse and repeat for other events throughout the year as well.
