Join Us on Tuesday for National Voter Registration Day

Angela Lee, Advocacy Outreach and Engagement Manager, Goodwill Industries International

This year’s National Voter Registration Day is on Tuesday, September 28. While there are no federal-level races on the ballot this year, this doesn’t mean upcoming elections don’t matter. Local leaders play a key role in making decisions about what impacts voters the most, and there is a whole slew of gubernatorial, state legislative, mayoral, and other local elections this year. Additionally, two special elections to the US House of Representatives for Ohio’s 11th and 15th Congressional districts, will take place on November 2. Also on November 2 are primaries for a House representative for Florida’s 20th Congressional district, the election of which will take place on January 11, 2022.

The leaders we elect this Fall are the ones who manage issues such as schools, public transportation, local policing, and more. It’s up to us to register and vote in large numbers, so we can hold them accountable and build a democracy at all levels of government that works best for all of us and the people we serve.

Goodwill Industries International is a proud supporter of National Voter Registration Day. First celebrated in 2012, National Voter Registration Day is a nonpartisan holiday that involves thousands of organizations and volunteers working together to ensure their family, friends, and neighbors are registered to vote and ready to cast a ballot. National Voter Registration Day is the perfect opportunity to get involved no matter what party you support, or which issues matter most to you. Many local Goodwill organizations are promoters for National Voter Registration Day and host voter registration drives and raise awareness on social media platforms around the importance of voting.

You, too, can be a part of this amazing day by registering to vote or checking your registration status.

The effort’s website also provides a listing of National Voter Registration Day events across the country that you can participate in. You can follow National Voter Registration Day activities through social media by searching #NationalVoterRegistrationDay and #VoteReady.

We hope you join us on September 28 to take a few moments to strengthen your community – and our country – with your voice!
