Leap into Advocacy

It is a leap year which means we have an extra day on the calendar. Congress is grateful as it gives them another day to negotiate fiscal year deadlines and avoid a government shutdown. Lawmakers aim to enact six bills to fund various administrative agencies by March 8 and the remaining six by March 22.

We’re happy to have another 24 hours to engage with Goodwill advocates. One way you can maximize your extra time is by registering for our Legislative Action Center. Registrants will receive weekly blog posts on hot topics in addition to periodic requests to take action. Chances are that if you received this message via email, you are already subscribed to the Legislative Action Center. But perhaps you haven’t sent an alert. Our action alerts allow you to send a pre-written message to your Members of Congress with the click of a button. The Legislative Action Center also contains an overview of GII’s legislative agenda, key legislation, and voter registration resources.

Regardless of your connection to Goodwill, as an advocate you volunteer your voice to speak up on behalf of those who face challenges to employment. You educate policymakers about the mission of Goodwill and the impact of their decisions on those we serve. You make a difference.

Despite this great level of support, there is still more work to be done. There are a number of policy issues that remain areas of concern for the Goodwill network and the individuals and families they serve. Our services continue to be of great importance to communities, and your support has never mattered more. Thank you.
