Why Ask Questions During an Interview?

By Randy Wooden, Director, Professional Center by Goodwill Industries of Northwest North Carolina

Why should we ask questions during a job interview? There are a number of reasons.

It Benefits You While the employer is interviewing you, you are interviewing them, too, to determine whether their position is something, you can or want to do. You want to understand the job duties and what is expected. Will you be asked to work a flexible schedule? What is the growth potential or career path within the organization?

Employers Value Questions The employer is looking to see your interest in their company and the position. If two candidates are equally qualified with experience and/or education, the candidate who demonstrates that they researched the company and asks good questions will have an edge. Write your questions to be sure you remember them.

Interviewing is a two-way street: ask questions to determine whether you want the job and demonstrate your interest in the position.
